About Test:

This group of tests is useful to evaluate whether a female patient shows signs of Polycystic Ovary Disorder. By looking at the hormonal status of the patient, it becomes easier to identify the possibility for this disease, and also monitor treatment in case of a definitive diagnosis.

Test preparation:

This panel requires the patient to be in the fasting state for 8-10 hours before the test.

Components Included:


This blood test measures levels of the Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which aids follicle growth in the ovary, and egg production. Low levels or those within the reference range may indicate PCOD.


This blood test measures levels of Luteinizing Hormone, which aids estrogen/ progesterone production and egg production. Extremely high levels are seen in PCOD, which often leads to irregular menstrual cycles.


This blood test is done to detect levels of prolactin secreted by the placenta (in pregnancy) and pituitary gland. Higher levels above normal may indicate PCOD

Serum Insulin:

This blood test measures the levels of insulin in the blood. Insulin is a hormone that is secreted by the pancreas gland. This helps to regulate sugar. There is often resistance to action of insulin in PCOD, and this affects sugar levels.

OH 17 progesterone:

This blood test measures the levels of OH 17 progesterone, which is secreted by the adrenal gland and converted into androgens that help develop male characteristics, and help in bone and muscle development, and cortisol, which helps reduce inflammation, and helps maintain sugar levels. This blood test measures levels of DHEAS, which is a metabolite produced during production of sex hormones. It regulates male and female bodily development, and elevated levels may be seen in PCOD

Estimation of blood sugar (Fasting & Post prandial) :

These blood tests measure glucose in the blood, which comes from carbohydrates. Glucose gives us energy and is regulated by insulin in the blood. Due to insulin resistance, glucose levels may be affected in PCOD

Polycystic Ovary Disorder is seen in females and occurs due to excess androgens, which are hormones that help develop male characteristics and help in bone and muscle development. This hormonal issue causes multiple cysts or bumps on the ovaries.

The symptoms and signs of PCOD include Excess hair growth on face Acne, Weight gain, Fertility issues, Anxiety, and depression, Irregular menstrual cycle
