Hepatitis B Immunity Profile

About Test:

This group of tests assesses immunity of an individual to certain diseases. The presence of certain antibodies in the blood can indicate the presence of infection, a past infection, or the absence of exposure to a disease in the first place. This helps to detect infection, and also monitor whether chance of another incidence of the same is likely. This test looks at immunity to Hepatitis B, A, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.

Anti-Hbsag Antibody:
This blood test detects presence of Antibodies to Hepatitis B. These give immunity to the disease, but there are several types of infection, and therefore, there is possibility of repeated infection. The test helps to look at the immunity of a person to the disease.
 
Anti-HAV Antibody Total:
This blood test is used to look at the levels of Antibodies to Hepatitis A. Positive result for IgM indicate a recent infection, whereas, IgG with negative IgM indicate a past infection. Total absence indicate no past exposure.
 
Anti-Measles Antibody:
This test is used to measure levels of anti-measles antibodies in the blood. Measles is an infectious viral disease that causes a red rash on the skin. Positive result for IgM indicate a recent infection, whereas, IgG with negative IgM indicate a past infection. Total absence indicate no past exposure.
 
Mumps IgG antibody:
This test is used to measure the levels of anti-mumps antibodies in the blood. Mumps is a contagious disease that causes swelling of the salivary glands. Positive results for IgM indicate a very recent infection. Positive results for IgG with negative IgM indicate a past exposure to the disease. Negative values for both indicate no past exposure to the infection.
 
Varicella IgG:
This test measures levels of antibodies to varicella in the blood. A primary infection with varicella leads to chickenpox, which is characterized by red dots or markings that irritate the skin. Herpes zoster or shingles is the other kind that occurs when the virus reactivates within the body. Positive IgG and IgM results indicate recent infection, whereas a negative result for both indicate no previous exposure. Positive IgG, but negative IgM indicate a past infection.
 
Rubella IgG antibody : 
This blood test helps to measure antibodies against Rubella. Rubella can cause fever, rashes, malaise and even birth defects if seen in pregnancy. A titer of less than 1:8 indicate need for immunization to prevent infection during pregnancy. Titers of greater than 1:32 indicate immunity caused by prior infection or vaccines. Positive IgM indicates infection that can be transmitted during pregnancy if it persists 2-3 months later.
